Cat Care: Training Cats to Sleep on Beds

Many cats love to sleep in the same bed as their owner and do not require coaxing. However, especially in the case of rescues, this may not be true. We love cats because they are so independent and, because of their independnce, so easy to care for. But, we also want that special relationship with our cats.
So, how do you train a cat to sleep on your bed if it doesn’t come naturally to them? Here is a great video with some tips from cat behaviorist Diana Korten.

So, by using some pheromones, or a little cat nip, and developing a bedtime routine, you should be able to get Fluffy to look forward to some nighttime cuddling!

My cat…is…eh…wierd. He acctualy got a strange talent wich is using his head to ram others as a sign of happiness…yeah….And one time he used that to ram my head of my head pillow, and then he went asleep on it. That was the worst night ive never had xD But it must have been his best.

This video is really helpful. My cat slept in my bed, glued to my face, until she was spayed and stopped being so affectionate — now I have to retrain her to be a lap kitty. One comment though: “diurnal” does not mean active at dawn & dusk — it means active during the day, i.e., the opposite of “nocturnal” (active at night). The word for active at dawn & dusk is “crepuscular.”
